The New Life

Artwork for The New Life, sophomore album from Belfast-based band Girls Names. The band are heavily influenced by the Zero movement, “a zone of silence and of pure possibilities for a new beginning”. Constantly reinventing themselves, we searched for a way to describe a new beginning.

Working with photographer Jake Green, and using a digitally-printed cloth and backdrop, we shot some images inspired by camouflage. Initially we wanted to be quite representative, showing a human figure beneath the cloth. But as we explored more, the abstract shots were more intriguing.

Final art

We settled on a shot that was unsettling and abstract. It's hard to make out what it is. The layout anchors the image in a rigid composition, reflective of the structure of the songs. Available here.
